Moab Trip

Photography Around Moab Area

November 5-10 (Monday – Saturday)

I believe we had a very successful and fun Photo Club excursion to Bryce Canyon National Park last month. Along with other photo trips and opportunities for the club next year, we wanted to propose and present some ideas for another fall trip next year. This is just a proposal and is certainly open to any changes in date, and location that the club members would like to make. The reason that this information is coming out so soon is that the proposed location books up relatively fast and many in the club have to plan their calendars one or more year(s) in advance.

There are many hotels and RV parks. I currently have reservations at the Moab Valley RV Resort for my 5 th wheel. The park also has small cabins for rent. I like this location as it is located on the north side of the town closer to the parks. It books up fast so if you intend on  going please get your RV or cabin reservations early.

The busiest time of the year from the Moab area is in October. By going the first part of November and going during the week we will avoid the massive crowds and get better pricing on lodging. The days are shorter making sunrise and sunset photography a little easier. The weather is brisk at night and in the morning 30-40’s but usually pleasant during the day mid 50’s to high 60’s. It is also less windy late into the fall. Based on my research, sunset is around 5:15pm and at about 7pm there is a good vertical tail of milky way about 230 Degrees with NO moon. Good for astro photography. Please check this out though.

If you have ideas or suggestions, please let us know what you would like to have for Workshops/Discussions.

What to bring

Since astro-photography is on the list, you will want to bring a tripod. Hiking gear is recommended.
